The primary objectives of VIEPS are to investigate and support:
- inter-disciplinary programs in geological, geophysical and atmospheric sciences to create a unified approach to the study of earth and planetary sciences.
- coordination of facilities and staff between the VIEPS partners to enhance their teaching and research programs by more effective use of their resources.
- collaboration between private industry, the VIEPS academic institutes and state organisations in order to keep teaching and research programs in touch with industry needs and developments.
The co-operation, collaboration and academic expertise within VIEPS is the product of a strong commitment by industry, government and the participating universities to improve education and relevant research. The core departments of VIEPS are the School of Earth Sciences at The University of Melbourne and the School of Geosciences at Monash University.
